Gibraltar Port Authority attends UK Department of Transport Port Security Officer Forum

Staff from the Gibraltar Port Authority recently attended the first Port Security Officer Forum hosted by the UK Department for Transport (DfT) at its London headquarters.

The Forum was made up of Port Security Officers from all the major UK ports and Gibraltar. J Manuel Tirado, Deputy Captain of the Port commented, “The Forum has provided a very useful opportunity to exchange information on Port Security operations and organisational
structures”. The Forum also provided a platform for different ports to collectively express their concerns to the Department for Transport as Regulators and advocate for improvements on current guidelines and practices. A further meeting will be held in 2016.

Minister for the Port, the Hon Paul Balban (MP) was pleased to see that the Port Authority had been included in this high level meeting thereby recognising Gibraltar Port as a key participant in maritime security.
