Gibraltar Port Joins Marine LNG Society

During the Chief Minister’s speech at the opening of the IBIA Annual Convention on Wednesday he announced that the Gibraltar Port Authority (GPA) has joined the Society for Gas as a Marine Fuel (SGMF). Speaking to over 150 delegates at the opening of the International Bunker Industry Association's annual convention at the Sunborn, the Chief Minister stated that he was delighted to see the port playing its part in this exciting development in the shipping world.

Gibraltar to Host Major Bunkering Convention – 9 to 10 November 2016

This year’s International Bunker Industry Association (IBIA) annual convention will take place in Gibraltar on 9 and 10 November. Building on the highly successful Regional Forum of February 2015, the convention will be held on board the Sunborn Hotel. The event will feature a first class two day IBIA Conference and Exhibition preceded by a number of professional training courses supported by the Gibraltar Port Operators’ Association and its members.

MS Serenissima Inaugural Visit to Gibraltar

The vessel belongs to the British cruise firm Noble Caledonia Ltd. It has a gross tonnage of 2,598 tonnes, a length of 87 metres, capacity for 110 passengers and a crew complement of 50.

The MS Serenissima will also be doing a turnaround in Gibraltar before departing the Rock on November 3rd.

Promotions and New Recruits at the Gibraltar Port Authority

The Gibraltar Port Authority (GPA) has announced that its latest recruits have successfully qualified as Vessel Traffic Service (VTS) Operators following an extensive period of training in the UK.

Yannick Baglietto, Sean Robba and Kyle Sivers have just returned from the South Tyneside College near Newcastle following an intense 7 week course which provided their VHF radio, radar and VTS training before their successful final assessment at the college last week.

Gibraltar Port Authority Holds Oil Spill Exercise Week

Key staff at the Gibraltar Port Authority (GPA) held a series of Oil Spill related exercises during the course of this week, in conjunction with Oil Spill Response Limited (OSRL).

OSRL, based in Southampton, and with stations world-wide, is the tier 3 oil spill response company contracted by the GPA. Brightside Services Ltd is contracted by OSRL as the Tier 1 and 2 responder locally and actively took part in all programmed exercises.

MV Clio makes its Inaugural call to Gibraltar

American ocean-cruising vessel M/V Clio made its inaugural call to the Port of Gibraltar this morning, Monday October 17.

Built in 1998 the Clio has a gross tonnage of 3,504 tonnes, a length of approximately 100 metres, carries 89 passengers and a crew of 60.

The ship was recently acquired by the US cruise company Grand Circle Cruise Line and refurbished earlier this year.

Gibraltar Port Authority Attends Singapore International Bunkering Conference (SIBCON)

Staff from the Gibraltar Port Authority (GPA) recently attended the world's largest and most influential bunkering event in Singapore. The CEO and Captain of the Port, Bob Sanguinetti was accompanied by Bunkering Superintendent, Daniel Perera at the Singapore International Bunkering conference (SIBCON).

Gibdock Attend SMM Exhibition in Hamburg

Gibdock attended the recent SMM exhibition in Hamburg to promote their ship repair and conversion business. The attendance was also aimed at targeting the German market which may mutually benefit Gibraltar plc and the Gibraltar Port Operators Association (GPOA).
